Higalaay Festival 2024 in Cagayan de Oro: A Grand Success
The recently concluded Higalaay Festival 2024 in Cagayan de Oro City was an extraordinary celebration of the city’s rich culture, history, and devotion to its patron, St. Augustine. The festival, which lasted for the entire month of August, showcased over 50 exciting events, highlighting both traditional and modern elements that embody the spirit of the Kagay-anons.
This year’s fiesta culminated on August 28, 2024, marking the city’s annual feast in honor of St. Augustine with the grand Religious and Fluvial Procession from Macabalan to Duaw Park. The streets of Cagayan de Oro were filled with vibrant parades, competitions, cultural performances, and community-driven activities, drawing locals and visitors alike.
A Month of Over 50 Spectacular Events
The festival was packed with a diverse lineup of activities, organized into core events, major events, minor events, parallel events, and other special events. Each category featured something unique, providing entertainment, culture, and community spirit for all ages.
Leadership Behind the Festival’s Success
This year’s success wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support and dedication of Mayor Rolando A. Uy, whose leadership ensured that the Higalaay Festival continued to grow bigger and more engaging. Likewise, a big shoutout goes to Barangay Carmen Punong Barangay Joaquin “Kikang” Uy (KapKik) for his substantial contribution, particularly in leading various activities for the community.
Kagay-anons Make It All Happen
Above all, the heart and soul of the Higalaay Festival 2024 were the Kagay-anons themselves. Their participation and enthusiasm throughout the month demonstrated their pride and love for their city and heritage. This massive effort, led by the Kagay-anons, made the celebration one for the history books. From sports tournaments to cultural parades and fashion shows to fireworks competitions, the spirit of togetherness shone through every moment.
